Anyone can begin a yoga practice regardless of physical fitness, age or body type. In the past few years Yoga has become extremely popular with people of all ages and abilities. A regular practice offers all kinds of mental and physical health benefits. Some are obvious, like improved flexibility and physical fitness. Others are more subtle, like mental clarity, reduced anxiety and stress reduction. When put together, all the benefits contribute to an increased feeling of well-being, which helps explain why so many people find yoga so addictive. There are many styles taught here in the Yoga Loft. Just give us a call and we can help you find the right one for you. With regular practice we can eventually develop a deeper connection and understanding of ourselves, both our body and mind, and develop a more harmonious relationship with ourselves and others.

Vinyasa Flow

Level 1

This 75 minute dynamic energising class is suitable for all levels, whether you are new to the Yoga mat or just want a level 1 class. The style of the class is Vinyasa which means that the flow of the poses are synchronised with the breath. Postures are explained when introduced and different sequences are practiced to work on all areas of the body with a emphasis on breathing, alignment, strength and flexibility. Each class finishes with a guided relaxation to integrate your practice and relax the mind and body. These classes are both fun and lively yet meditative to cultivate mindfullness and peace to incorporate the philosophy and spirit of yoga.

Level 1-2

This is an energetic and dynamic style of class. Different sequences are introduced to open the body to the flow of the practice, which combined with the breath brings harmony and balance to the mind and all systems of the body. Suitable are new to yoga and for those who have attended yoga previously.

Level 2-3

In this class we are introducing the Ashtanga Vinyasa series combining with other vinyasa sequences. A strong class where students are encouraged to work according to their level. Modifications are also also used so that students can meet each pose individually. It is suitable for students who have a regular yoga practice.

Hatha Yoga

?Hatha Yoga
Hatha style classes are a slower and more relaxing pace of yoga that stretch, strengthen and tone your whole body while rejuvenating your system and improving breathing. The slower movements work on internal working of the body and tone and rejuvinate the organs. This class emphasis is more on relaxation than some of the more dynamic classes. Breathing and movements are generally slower and as with all classes in the studio, each student is encouraged to move at their own pace and listen to the feedback from their body so they can practice in a way that suits them best. The main focus in these classes are relaxation, injury recovery, improved flexibility, stress reduction and most importantly the cultivation of a peaceful mind.

Iyengar Yoga

Iyengar Yoga is the method developed by BKS Iyengar. It is known for its structured, systematic and safe approach to practice. The teacher pays attention to every student and gives corresponding instructions to help the students improve their postures and deepen their experience of asanas. Every class is a specially selected sequence of postures. Attention, precision and alignment in asanas are inherent features of Iyengar Yoga.

The Iyengar method of yoga uses many props such as support blocks and belts, allowing individuals at any range of flexibility to get maximum benefit from the poses. Classes focus on building flexibility and stamina and correct alignment. This class is suitable for all students.

Iyengar Level 1

Perfect for those who are new to yoga as well as those who practiced other method of yoga and wants to be familiar with Iyengar yoga.

During our class, we will unveil the principles of alignment and movements of Iyengar Yoga through basic yoga postures. This will make a good foundation for further development of your personal practice. The postures to be covered are standing postures, postures on the floor, sitting postures, basic backbends, forward bends and twists. Our class includes detailed step-by-step introduction of inversions so that you benefit most from these postures. Each class is finished with a deep relaxation posture - Savasana.

We recommend to attend Course Level A before moving to Level B. Class A happens every second Friday.

Iyengar Level 2

Prior experience of Iyengar yoga is recommended or you are welcome to attend Course Level 1 before moving to Level 2.

This class is perfect for those who are already familiar with Iyengar Yoga. During this class we continue asana practice based on basic Iyengar yoga principles: alignment, precision and attention in order to develop the intelligence of the body. Since more poses are introduced, and it is not possible to cover all the postures during one class, here is a 5 weeks cycle with each week having more accent onto a certain class of postures: 1 - standing postures, 2 - forward bends, 3 - backbends, 4 - pelvis opening and balances, 5 - restorative postures and introduction to basic pranayamas. Each class is finished with a deep relaxation posture - Savasana. You are welcome to join any class within this cycle as each class is designed as a self contained practice.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga
This is a deep and meditative yoga practice working with the whole body using long held stretches. The practice incorporates breathwork, mindfulness, meditation techniques which will help to relax the nervous system and slow down an over active mind.

Yin Yoga works specifically on the tendons, fascia, and ligaments with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. Each posture will be held for 3 to 5 minutes allowing the body to release and relax in its own time, creating a fantastic sense of well-being.

Pregnancy Yoga

Pregnancy Yoga
Pregnancy yoga is a safe and ideal way of relaxing and keeping fit and mobile during pregnancy. The carefully chooses movements and postures support the pregnant body and help keep the body supple, boost energy, relieve common ailments like swollen joints and back pain. Women learn special breathing exercises to relieve stress, promotes restful sleep.

The class gives time out just for mums and to allows special time to bond with their unborn baby. It is suitable for anyone who is over 14 weeks pregnant and who has been given permission for their doctor to practice. This is a special time for mums to be and pregnancy yoga can be a really supportive tool at this time.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Vinyasa

Ashtanga is a yoga system based on a sequence of challenging, energetic poses and focuses on the breath (pranayama) at all times. This class is designed to slowly break down the sequence of the traditional primary series of the Ashtanga system. The teacher guides the students through the Primary Series. Students will be encouraged to attempt the postures to their own particular level of ability to avoid pain and injury and to maximize the sense of joy and ease that is possible in the traditional sequence.

Beginner Ashtanga

Ashtanga is a yoga system based on a sequence of challenging, energetic poses and focuses on the breath (pranayama) at all times. This class is designed to slowly break down the sequence of the traditional primary series of the Ashtanga system from a beginner level. This Beginners class is an introduction to the Ashtanga method of yoga, which is designed to help strengthen the body and increase flexibility. You'll learn to connect movement with breath, achieve balance, and increase strength and energy that lasts all day. This is a slow and safe class that will maximize your energy and calms your mind.

Ashtanga Level 2-3

This class is based on the Ashtanga Yoga system, breaking down certain elements and qualities of your yoga practice. It is about the 8 limbs of the Ashtanga System – the practice of yoga on the mat and how that transfers to your life off the mat. Allowing one time to work on Ujjayi breathing (a practice in itself), back bending, Core, Hip Opening, Bandhas, lengthening the spine, meditation practice through movement, Inversions and much more.
