Vinyasa Yoga

Many of our classes have elements of Vinyasa Flow within them. Its most common understanding is bringing together breath and movement with a conscious and constant flow of yoga asanas

These classes are focused on mindful based movement and by using the breath to synchronise our movements in and out of poses, we become more present and centred as we move through the classes. All our Hot Yoga Classes, Power Yoga Classes and Flow classes will contain elements of Vinyasa in them.

Hot Yoga

Hot Yoga (Hot Core Power Hour/Hot VInyasa Yoga/Hot Power Hour) are classes developed by our teachers in House of Yoga Waterford and combines a strong and dynamic yoga class. with specific alignment and energetic principles which and develop core stability. The Hour long classes are designed for those who are short on time but like a strong and intense workout. These challenging classes will take you through a series of focused, progressive postures to promote a cleansing of sweat, reshaping muscles, and increase strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. The heat improves the body’s pliability in order to deepen your practice. Our Studio has installed a unique infrared heating system. This system allows your body to detoxify 7 times faster. The infrared heaters in our studio penetrate your body tissues, inducing a natural fever situation without a fever. This induced fever causes the body to sweat & remove toxins, increase circulation and helps the body function more efficiently. Enjoy softer and clearer skin tone, reduced muscle and joint tenderness and soreness, increased weight loss with a proper nutritional program, the ability to have a deeper more relaxing sleep, and reduce stress. Hot Yoga is a self massage to every muscle in the entire body. It cleanses, detoxifies, strengthens, reshapes and improves your overall health like nothing else you can do. Our Classes ‘Hot Yoga Flow’ and ‘Hot Core Power’ are the same level class, but with a different emphasis; Hot Yoga Flow is a more generic Vinyasa Class, Hot Core Power has a lot of core strength work included into the sequence. All classes are challenging so if you like the intensity of a good workout with the special yoga magic this is the class for you!

Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga is not a specific type of yoga, but rather encompasses all of the asana, physical posture, systems. Like all Sanskrit words, “Hatha” has many meanings, including “force” or “effort” as well as “sun/moon” (“ha” – sun + “tha” – moon); that is, the archetypal uniting and resolution of opposites. In the context of a modern asana practice, the general term Hatha has come to be used in the specific, describing a more classic approach, a one-pose-at-a-time style class, with focus on alignment, anatomy, body mechanics, and mindfulness.

In our Hatha classes, we offer an emphasis on simplicity, repetition, and ease, a pursuit of effortlessness even as we work out the body’s patterns. Relaxation is our primary focus as we make a full circuit of the body’s range of motion including standing postures, twists, backbends, forward folds, and hip openers to each class.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative Yoga is described as the ‘Yoga of undoing” & “Active Relaxation” A powerful internal practice, moving from outer awareness – things you normally focus on) to a deep internal awareness. It is very tranquil, using blankets, bolsters blocks and cushions to encourage your body to let go and relax deeply. As there is no muscular activity, the body is supported & held into position.

It helps soothe your nervous system, calm your mind, release body tension, relax your organs, improve the quality of your breath, replenish energy levels, balance chakra’s and allow your body, mind to deeply rest.

This practice stimulates the para-sympathtic nervous system – often called our “Rest & Digest” system to balance a busy life.

Restorative Yoga combines meditation & relaxation, it quiets the mind, making it more reflective, as meditation does, but doing so while the body relaxes deeply, so reflection and insight becomes embodied.

This complements an active yoga practice & anyone can practice Restorative Yoga, regardless of age, shape or physical condition, even those with no Yoga experience. The poses are designed to be comfortable.

Teenage Yoga

House of Yoga was developed by Karla Kelly in 2009 and she has since toured it all over Ireland at yoga studios (Yoga Dublin, The YogaRoom, An Seomra Yoga Galway, Yogaworx Cork, Yogaloft Cork, Cork Movement Centre, Essence Yoga Studio and more) and festivals (Electric Picnic, Body & Soul, Oxegen, Monalty Yoga Soul Festival)The House of Yoga is a dance for embodiment of the rhythm of a beat. Its a light yet profound way of moving with yoga asanas and music which creates a great sense of balance in our rhythms. Its a method/ a unique practice of aligning our movements in tune with our breath as we inhale and exhale to the rhythm of the housemusic Soundtrack. Its a synergy of Body, Breath. Beat.
This class is perfect for teens, as it is fun and light and teaches a balanced and even breath in a very inspiring way. By managing the breath and releasing tension in the body and mind, this class will help you release the seriousness of the week at school and help you feel much lighter, giving you a brilliant start to the weekend.

Strong Core yoga is a fusion of Yoga and some deep abdominal & surface core strengthening movements. The core strengthening focus of the class is balanced and integrated with the lengthening and elongating effects of yoga poses to create a unique full body practice, and bring intelligence of strength AND flexiblity into the core. A strong core is essential to a happy back so this class is especially beneficial for those who have any back pain or vulnerabilities in their spine, as well as those who really want a deeper sense of what a strong core actually means. Its not just a six pack!

This deeply relaxing class is suitable for beginners and all levels of yoga. We begin with breath awareness and slow gentle vinyasa (movement co ordinated with breath) movements through the body. The first half of the class is done on a chair as we wake spine, arms, head and neck with conscious care.
The class weaves in a deep quality of mindfulness into the body by focusing more on breath awareness and sensory embodiment, and a sense of ease through the body. Our focus, in a mindfulness sense is to be fully present with what is happening with each breath, each small and subtle movement. Although the focus is on developing a deeper quality of gentleness in body and mind, some strong poses are included to ground the softer qualities of the slower meditative movements and to create a stable and solid foundation for our mindfulness practice in the body.

House of Yoga
House of Yoga is a fusion of Yoga with House Music. Its the unique class of the studio, as the method has been developed by the studio owner and director, Karla Kelly, and refined over several years of teaching locally and in workshops around the country.

The House of Yoga is a dance for embodiment of the rhythm of a beat. Beat.

The body; as our instrument of action in the world , has many rhythms and ways of expressing themselves. As adults we so rarely play in our bodies. We do serious work all day and then do serious exercise in the evening. So we can tune into our playful rhythmic side in house of yoga. House of Yoga has a fixed method which gives safety and security to the mind and heart – allowing the movement of the body to be ordered and organised initially. After a half hour or so of the method- the body releases and the natural flow can happen.

Breath is life. When we breathe more fully and consciously, we create more consciousness in ourselves and as we do that together in rhythm @ house of yoga, your house, your rhythm becomes more balanced with those around you and we breathe life into the experience of moving together. Because we’re inhaling with the rhythm of the beat, the breath seems less serious and more fun, so we can guide our bodies and minds into deep pranayama under the disguise of House Music!

The beat is a drawing in and drawing out experience in house of yoga. When we dance in rhythm are are you drawing the beat from outside in or inside out? Of course sometimes you’re doing both. And as a group then its one movement, one collective breath, one dance of housemusicyoga! The house’ of house music is a joyful celebration of healing rhythms and positive poetic lyrics of the best of house music. We all really love to party, and house of yoga is like a bodyparty?!!!
