About Sylvia’s love of yoga and dedication to her practice, studies and students is apparent in her classes. Her attention to detail in the language she uses and her thoughtful sequencing encourages students to be mindful in body and breath. The goal is to focus attention; the result is a deep sense of lasting calm and a physical practice that is both safe and challenging. Weak spots become stronger; areas of tension and tightness soften. She guides each student to focus their awareness deeply on aspects relevant to them, at that moment, always seeking balanced effort. She teaches Hatha, Ashtanga, Yoga for Pregnancy, School Students, Kids Yoga, Meditation and private yoga classes. Her classes flow seamlessly influenced by the many teachers and workshops she attends on an on-going basis. All are welcome, young and old, bendy and stiff, lapsed yogis and rusty yogis. On sunny days, if there is any way possible, she will try to find a grassy, tree-sheltered spot to take the class outdoors. Sylvia has been teaching for 10 years, a much loved teacher who tends to attract a devoted following. She has been teaching in RTE for 8 years and in various other centres, studios, schools, homes and fields around Dublin. The Park Community Centre, is just opposite The Scholar’s Public House at the edge of the park on Parklands Road, minutes from the Firhouse exit of M50. Ballyroan Community Centre Ballyroan Community Centre, Marian Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14. Classes in RTÉ Classes take place in The Club in RTE available to members of the RTE Sports and Social Club only. Please enquire directly with The Club about eligibility for membership: Tel 208 2042. Classes take place outdoors on sunny days; look out for yoga mats on the grass as you come into the club. Please enquire about Yoga for Pregnancy, small classes run in the Club on a regular basis based on demand. Please enquire about course start dates. Provisions can be made for those starting a course after it has begun and for those unable to attend all the dates in the course. Enquiries, comments, special requests all welcomed. Sylvia can travel to you with all the equipment you need, and customise a yoga class for your precise requirements. With a particular emphasis on mindfulness as the students practice yoga they teach themselves how to get into the ‘flow’, feeling happy, strong, connected and motivated. Specifically students learn to: Cultivate an ability to connect with the breath Techniques to ground the awareness, focus the attention and calm the mind Yoga sequences to connect breath and movement; moving meditations Yoga postures to release tension, bring the body through its range of movement and get a good, healthy stretch all round Guided meditation and deep relaxation Prepare students for what to expect in yoga classes in University Classes can be tailored to suit the needs of each individual group: Mindfulness and Meditation In normal clothing in a meditation/prayer room students learn to sit quietly and connect with the breath Experience of short guided meditation using a variety of techniques to calm and focus the mind Simple breath and movement techniques, walking meditation Using breath and mindfulness as a tool for conflict resolution, role playing conflict resolution in a safe, fun environment Mindfulness and Yoga A physical practice in PE clothes Practice can be gentle, simple easy movement with an emphasis on releasing tension or more physical (and fun!) or a combination of both Students are encouraged to choose a level of exertion that feels right for them at that particular time, cultivating an ability to listen to and respect their bodies Classes can be structured in short courses, ongoing courses or one off workshops.
