Danú Yoga Centre offers a calm, warm space to Breathe, Move and Transform through the practice of Hatha Yoga and Kundalini Yoga. Each class is small - creating an intimate and safe space for individual attention and development of personal posture and alignment. Whether you are looking for deep relaxation, stress reduction or spiritual transformation then Yoga has something to offer you. It is simple to learn, easy to practice and a tool that you can use throughout your lifetime. Yoga treats the person as a whole using postures, breathing, relaxation and meditation. Through Yoga the body, mind, emotions and spirit are positively affected and uplifted. Through the practice of Yoga you can learn to: physically: release held tensions in the body increase your energy increase strength and flexibility ease back-ache improve posture emotionally: improve relationship with self and others resolve trauma overcome anxiety, fear, anger and depression spiritually: improve confidence and self-esteem bring a deeper sense of connection with the world around you transform negative into positive energy live with compassion for self and others increase awareness with our True Nature A more conscious and sensitive awareness of what the body is actually asking for can be developed with practice over time. Yoga, meditation, mindfulness and actively listening to your body will create a capacity of inner knowing, confidence and self-esteem. In Danú Yoga Centre I teach Hatha Yoga with a focus on breathing and bringing awareness to the energy in the body to help relieve stress. I work with awareness through the Chakras (energy centres in the body), also posture awareness, toning and strengthening the body, increasing flexibility and bringing strength into your core. I believe in fulfilling the highest level of my soul's potential in this lifetime and I know that this is possible through Yoga, Meditation and also through Reiki. It is my wish to assist others on their journey.

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini Yoga is the Yoga of Awareness

Kundalini Yoga was brought to the West by Yogi Bhajan in 1969, who himself became a Master of Kundalini Yoga by the age of 16yrs.

It is a science based Yoga which works on all the systems of the body (digestive, circulatory, nervous, immune, urinary, endocrine, lymphatic, muscular, reproductive and respiratory), all the organs of the body and all the subtle aspects of the body. It works directly on the total energy of the body through the use of movement co-ordinated with breath, mantra (chanting), mudra (hand positions). It helps to clear the subconscious mind and brings a state of clarity and calm to the mind and a feeling of elevation and expansion.

The focus of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, is on 'Self-Awareness' and delivering an experience of your highest consciousness. It's technology is a science of the mind and body to elevate the spirit which has no boundaries - it is universal - it is a Yoga for Everyone.

What to expect during a Kundalini Yoga Class:

Restful Yoga for stressful times

With this practice we can relieve the effects of the daily stresses from our life's with the use of props to create a completely supportive environment for total relaxation. Each sequence is designed to move the spine in all directions, some poses are backbends, some are forward bends and some gently twist the spine to either side. Putting the spine through it's complete range of movement in a gentle supportive environment lends it's way to a healthy spine. Supported inverted poses can have a dramatic effect on our bodies, because we stand or sit for most of the day blood and lymph fluid accumulate in the lower extremities. By changing the relationship of the legs to gravity, fluids are returned to the upper body and function is enhanced. Restorative Yoga can both stimulate and soothe the organs and also create a balance between Prana (masculine energy which resides above the diaphragm) & Apana (feminine energy which resides below the diaphragm). A Restorative practice balances these two aspects of energy so that you are never overstimulated nor depleted. I believe a restorative practice to be an integral part of any Yogis practice.

Developing a Pranayama Practice.

A simple way of maintaining a healthy lifestyle is by simply breathing, but breathing consciously. Allowing our attention to focus solely on each inhale and each exhale something we very rarely do. Our day to day life's are so busy our attention is never just in one place its in many places making many lists.... By taking the time to slow down, deepening our breaths we strengthen our respiratory system, soothe our nervous system and reduce our cravings. Our busy minds are freed and we are able to concentrate more fully. Moving through many varieties of breathwork will create the space to allow ourselves to be calm and more relaxed. Our breath is a very powerful tool which we all have an can utilize any time in any place...
So try it right now with 10 slow, deep conscious breaths... !!!

Organiser: Lisa Burke

  • Lisa Burke has been practising Yoga since 1997. She trained with YTTC in 2003 in Hatha Yoga and is certified with Yoga Alliance. She has also trained with Sada Sat Kaur and Sada Sat Singh in Kundalini Yoga Level 1 and has hosted the first Dublin Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training at the Danu Yoga Centre, Ballinteer. Lisa's approach is very much heart centred with influences from such traditions as Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Flow and Kundalini Yoga. She has also trained in Tera-Mai Reiki Level 3. She assists in bringing peoples awareness to their chakras through movement, breathwork, chanting and meditation. On my own journey I have been blessed and guided to meet so many wonderful practitioners in so many different fields; yoga, shamanic, holistic, healing, shiatsu. I am filled with gratitude to each one that has helped me on my journey. I have come to know me and feel I have connected so deeply and profoundly that I hold no fears. I opened my heart and found my path, I live it and breathe it and hope to share it with all that I meet.
